Learn and Discuss the Role of Music in Catholic Worship!
One of God’s gifts to us was the gift of song. In words and music, our ancestors in faith taught us how to revel in God’s infinite love, proclaim His glory, give thanks and ask for mercy and forgiveness.
In 2007, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops wrote Sing to the Lord: Music in Divine Worship to help us appreciate our vast musical tradition and provide guidelines for the role and ministry of music in the liturgy. This publication also outlines considerations for preparing and judging music for worship with a review of the musical structure of Liturgy.
On Tuesdays in January and February we at SJN will gather to discuss Sing to the Lord. By doing so, we will:
~ better understand the role of the faithful in sung worship
~ discuss the role and importance of parish music ministers
~ evaluate the parish’s – and our own – musical repertoire
Sessions will be on Tuesdays from 6:45 – 8:00 p.m. in Rooms 9 & 10 of the Faith & Family Center, beginning January 7. The sessions are free; you can access a copy of the full USCCB document here.
