Implementation began on
November 27, 2011
Dear St. John Neumann Family,
Some of the prayers of the Mass changed on November 27, 2011, the First Sunday of Advent. You may be concerned about why this happened. First, be assured that the Mass itself did not change. Although there are new translations of some of the prayers offered by the priest, and some of the responses of the people, the Holy Mass itself remains the same.
There are several reasons for the changes, which have been in the works since 2002. The new words more accurately translate Scripture and the ancient Latin text, are more sacred when addressing God, and provide unity with the rest of the world so that the words said at Mass are the same in every language.
Consider that this is not only a time of change, but also a unique opportunity for Catholics in English speaking nations to "deepen, nurture, and celebrate our faith through the renewal of our worship and the celebration of the Sacred Liturgy." (U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops). It is a time for all of us as Catholic Christians to grow in our knowledge and appreciation of the beauty of the Holy Mass. I pray that no one in our parish miss this opportunity.
Sincerely,
Fr. David Sizemore
