Mission is a Catholic middle school youth ministry experience created for early adolescents in grades six and seven. Mission is designed to meet the educational, spiritual, emotional, and social needs of young adolescents. At this age middle school youth are open to good and bad behaviors as well as positive and negative ideas. Many of the values and beliefs that they held as children are now questioned and challenged. As young adolescents they are trying to figure out who they are and what they believe. In many respects middle school kids are on the edge because so much is going on in their lives physically, mentally, spiritually, and socially. It can be a very stressful and difficult time for them and their parents.
For the 2020-2021 school year, Mission will be done in an online format, as well as 4 in-person events. Students and families can access the Decision Point portion of the curriculum online through Dynamic Catholic. Click here to access the Decision Point materials. This program is a great introduction to what students will be covering during our 8th grade Confirmation Program at SJN. Once you are on the Decision Point page, click into Session 1. This will bring up the video for Session 1. There is a “Download Workbook” link in the left-hand navigation bar within Session 1. This will allow you to download the corresponding workbook for free. All work can be completed by the student according to his or her preferred schedule; please submit the completed workbook pages or a summary of what was learned by the last week in April.
The other half of our program can be accessed through the SJN website on the password-protected Mission Lessons page, which will house videos and supplemental materials for students each month. Please visit the registration page now to register for access to these important materials. You will be prompted to enter a password to enter the registration page; please use the SJN password that was emailed to you by Jennifer Glassmire, or email Jennifer to request the password.
In addition to the online format of Mission, we will offer four Mission Homecoming nights this year, which will be opportunities for 6th and 7th graders to meet in our Faith & Family Center as a community! Please add these dates to your calendar:
November 18 – Damascus Missionaries will be here! POSTPONED UNTIL SPRING! Due to the increase in Covid numbers and Governor DeWine’s press conference last week, the November 18 Mission Homecoming with Damascus Missionaries has been postponed until the Spring. More details to come!
December 2- Movie Night -Nativity Story

Goals of Mission Middle School Ministry
1. Foster a transforming spiritual experience of Jesus through the liturgy, allowing early adolescents to experience the Word of God and the Eucharist in a deeper and more profound way.
2. Create a positive experience of the Catholic Church for early adolescents.
3. Assist middle school youth in gaining an understanding an appreciation of what the Catholic Church teaches and believes.
4. Incorporate the Catholic Church’s vision of social justice and peace into the spiritual life of pre-adolescents.
